Insta supports the reforestation of the Krummenscheid municipal forest
The reforestation project of Insta GmbH enters its third round
"There you are again," warmly greets forest worker Vitalii Fesik. For those involved, the start of the yearly planting campaign in the Krummenscheid municipal forest in Lüdenscheid has almost become a tradition. This year marks Insta GmbH's third consecutive support for a reforestation project in the northern part of Lüdenscheid. From November 23rd to 26th, approximately 3,000 English oak trees were planted, significantly expanding the existing area.
"It's particularly important to me that this project isn't a one-time effort, but a commitment to the long-term reforestation of forest areas here in Lüdenscheid," emphasized Managing Director Alexander Burgbacher in 2022. With the company's support, a sustainable, diverse mixed deciduous forest covering almost 50,000 square meters (4.8 ha) has been established over the last three years, aimed at resiliently facing future climate conditions. "Our commitment to the environment and future generations is part of our social responsibility, which is why we've decided to continue this reforestation project," Burgbacher explains Insta GmbH's commitment.
Following the project's commencement in 2021 with approximately 5,000 English oak trees, hornbeams, and wild cherries planted over an area of around 10,000 square meters, 2022 saw the addition of forest edge designs featuring wild service trees and wild cherries. This year, the original area was further expanded through a large-scale planting campaign of English oak trees. "Another piece in the mosaic of reforesting the Krummenscheid municipal forest. The town of Lüdenscheid, as the forest owner, is delighted and grateful that companies in the region show such interest in the welfare of local forests and actively participate in reforestation," remarks Marcus Teuber, forester at Wald und Holz NRW for the Lüdenscheid forestry district.
For Insta GmbH, this initiative is also a part of the company's sustainability strategy. "Sustainability isn't only a global concern, but primarily a local one. Everyone can contribute in their own small way to this cause. It's important for us to focus on our Lüdenscheid site," states Managing Director Alfred Vrieling.
Together with Marcus Teuber, Insta GmbH plans the continuation of the environmental project initiated in 2021 every autumn. Areas are jointly selected, and the forester then determines the appropriate tree species and measures to protect the seedlings from wildlife browsing. When winter arrives, things often progress rapidly, and a call comes in: "The weather's favourable; we'll begin planting tomorrow." In this context, 'favourable' typically means weather conducive to tree planting: damp and cold, yet free of frost. This poses no problem for forestry worker Vitalii and his team. He has overseen the planting campaign from the outset and will hopefully extend another warm welcome to us in 2024…
