KNX area and line couplers with KNX Data Secure and optimised processing and response times

With the KNX area and line coupler, Insta are launching an OEM product on the market to network smart buildings in a more targeted manner. The rail-mount device can be used to connect a main or area line with a subordinate line, optionally with or without a filter function. In addition, different lines or areas can be coupled or separated in the KNX system. The area and line coupler plays a major role in the structuring and segmentation of this system.

Segmentation and filters
The area and line coupler separates different lines or areas in the KNX network. This allows data traffic on the lines to be isolated and reduced to make the overall system more stable and efficient.

Range extension
The maximum cable length and the number of devices per line are limited in the KNX system. The area and line coupler enables the overall system to be extended beyond these line limits by means of physical segmentation.

Monitoring and diagnostics
The area and line coupler provides diagnostic functions, which can be used to monitor the status of the network and identify errors more easily.

The area and line coupler is essential for operating complex KNX systems efficiently and reliably, especially in large buildings or installations with many sublines.

Secure connection between two private lines in public spaces thanks to product update 

In contrast to the line amplifier, the area and line coupler can provide filter tables in its function as a segment coupler. The device allows a line to be extended over any number of segments, limited only by the number of available device addresses. This means that up to 255 devices can be supported per segment. 

Lines and segments are connected with each other using ETS6 (manufacturer-independent configuration software for KNX devices). When replacing defective devices in existing systems or using old ETS versions, the device can be used as an area and line coupler without restrictions. 

KNX Data Secure compatibility 

The area and line coupler has its own Secure proxy. Thanks to the Secure proxy, existing systems with non-Secure-capable devices can also be expanded with Secure-operated lines. The proxy performs the necessary translation between encrypted and unencrypted group communication. It can also securely filter the commissioning and manipulation of devices in private lines from the public area, with the ETS automatically issuing all necessary authorisations. 

The device itself is commissioned securely and thus protected against undesired manipulation.
